Overview
This Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician apprenticeship provides the opportunity to gain practical experience in a manufacturing environment while developing the skills needed for a career as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer. The role involves working alongside experienced engineers to maintain, repair and improve a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment, helping to keep production machinery safe, reliable and operating efficiently.
The apprentice will gain hands-on experience carrying out planned and preventative maintenance, diagnosing and rectifying faults, installing and repairing equipment, and supporting continuous improvement activities. They will develop knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, automation, instrumentation, technical documentation and safe working practices while working with equipment such as motors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, control systems and other production machinery.
The role would suit someone who has a genuine interest in engineering, enjoys solving problems, pays attention to detail and is willing to learn. Good communication, teamwork and patience are also important when working alongside experienced engineers. Alongside workplace experience, the apprentice will complete a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification, with the opportunity to progress into a qualified Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer role after successful completion.

Training to be Delivered
The apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification with Luminate Education Group. Training will combine practical workplace experience with specialist engineering training, including one day per week away from the workplace for college-based study.
During the qualification, the apprentice will develop skills in maintaining, repairing, installing and testing both mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. Training will cover planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance, fault finding, diagnosing problems, replacing components and returning equipment to safe working condition.
The apprentice will also learn about mechanical systems such as pumps, valves, gearboxes and pipework, as well as electrical equipment including motors, switchgear, cables and control systems. Further training will cover instrumentation, process control, automation, technical documentation, health and safety, environmental requirements and safe working procedures.
Alongside technical engineering skills, the qualification will develop problem-solving, communication, teamwork and decision-making abilities. The apprentice will learn how to respond to equipment faults and abnormal conditions, carry out inspections and performance checks, complete maintenance activities to specification and contribute to improving the reliability and efficiency of production equipment.
