Overview

This Level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship provides the opportunity to gain practical experience in a precision engineering environment while developing the skills needed for a career in engineering and fabrication. The role involves assembling a variety of engineering projects and developing practical fitting skills, with exposure to machining, welding, grinding, laser cutting, sheet metal forming and tool, jig and fixture making.

The apprentice will gain hands-on experience preparing and assembling components, finishing work through processes such as deburring, tapping and flame hardening, and using engineering tools and equipment accurately. They will also develop an understanding of machining processes, limits, fits and tolerances, as well as gaining the opportunity to progress into site work once the required competencies have been achieved.

The role would suit someone who is logical, creative, patient and willing to take initiative. Alongside workplace experience, the apprentice will complete a Level 3 Engineering Fitter qualification with Luminate Education Group. The training will develop practical engineering, measuring, inspection, problem-solving and technical drawing skills, with the opportunity to progress into a full-time engineering position after successful completion.

Training to be Delivered

The apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Engineering Fitter qualification with Luminate Education Group. Training will combine practical experience in the workplace with the technical knowledge required to work safely and accurately as an engineering fitter.

During the qualification, the apprentice will learn how to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, diagrams and work instructions, as well as plan fitting and assembly tasks and select the correct materials, tools and equipment. They will develop skills in measuring, testing and inspecting components using equipment such as verniers, micrometers and electrical measuring instruments.

Training will also cover problem-solving, identifying and correcting faults, checking tools and equipment, maintaining quality standards and applying continuous improvement techniques. The apprentice will learn how to complete job and quality documentation, communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, report issues and maintain a clean and organised working environment.

Health and safety, environmental responsibilities, waste management and safe working procedures will form an important part of the training. The qualification will help develop the practical and technical skills needed to assemble, inspect and finish engineering components to the required specification and quality standards.
