Introduction
Did you know there are over 700 apprenticeships available across 18 different industry sectors in England?
If you’re thinking about an apprenticeship — but want to look beyond construction and the traditional trades — this course is for you.
Designed for young people aged 16–19, it helps you explore a wide range of apprenticeship options while building the confidence and skills you’ll need for the workplace. You’ll continue to develop your English and Maths, gain hands-on experience with real employers, and learn how to create a strong CV and prepare for interviews and applications.
This course is all about helping you become work-ready and confident to take your next step toward employment or an apprenticeship.
Overview
This course is a stepping stone toward paid apprenticeships and employment. You’ll explore a wide range of apprenticeship opportunities while developing the skills and qualities employers value most.
You’ll begin with a skills analysis and work with our team to create a personalised action plan, focusing on your goals and any areas for development. With support from our network of local employers, you’ll gain hands-on experience and insight into different career paths.
Practical experience is available across sectors such as:
- Estates Management
- Youth Work
- Hospitality
- Healthcare
- Animal Care
- Administration
- Manufacturing
On completion, you’ll achieve an NCFE Level 2 Award or Certificate in Employability Skills, helping you take the next step toward your chosen apprenticeship or job.
This programme has been developed in collaboration with the Leeds Learning Alliance.

Entry requirements
- GCSE grades 3 in English and Maths.
- A reference from your last place of education.

Assessment types
You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including witness statements provided by employers, practical demonstrations and reflections, written assignments, and professional discussions.
For those resitting GCSEs, there will be opportunities to retake exams in both November and May, depending on your grading profile at enrolment.
