What Our Students Say

“When I first came I didn’t know anybody at the college but because it’s people you’re surrounded by and people with similar interests to you, you do make friends quickly and you make really close friendships with people because you’re listening to the same things and you’re going through the same things, and you can help each other as well.”

Eve

“So the tutors are great for a number of reasons – they’re casual, you don’t feel like you’re being forced to do anything that’s uncomfortable, they’re not strict, they’ll have a laugh with you if you want to and they know how to get stuff done when they need to if we’re on a bit of a time crunch, but they also know how to have a bit of fun and not put pressure on you – and they’re great, they’re always there to give you information if you need it for at-home tasks and they’re always on Google Hangouts to message you if you need anything and they get back to you really quickly.”

Rachel

“I decided to study at Leeds City College because I liked the equipment and the rooms that they had, and I liked how it was a whole new space – it had only recently been built so everything was brand spanking new and it looked really clean and really nice.”

Overview

Whether you want to go on to further study or gain employment, you will expand your enterprise and employability skills to help you take those next steps. This varied course emphasises personal development through valuable volunteer opportunities and experience of working on events and projects. You will gain a recognised qualification and progression support.

What will my study programme look like?

This is a full-time course for 1 year. You will be required to attend college for 16 hours (minimum) per week from September to July. Most courses run over 3 days per week and individual sessions are usually 1-2 hours long (with regular ‘brain break’ activities throughout).

Course units/modules

As part of this pathway, you will study NCFE Level 2 Employability Skills, Business Start Up or Creative Craft. You will also study Maths and/or English GCSE/Functional Skills, Fundamentals Life & Work Skills Builder sessions, alongside attending Enrichment & Enterprise sessions.

You will be required to complete 30 hours of real Work Experience during the year to complete the course.

During the course, you will build up a portfolio and digital CV to help you progress to your chosen next steps, whether that be further education, employment, or an apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

Enrolment in the Level 2 course is for students who can work at the Level 2 academic standard. For this reason, we usually require a grade 2 GCSE or equivalent to ensure students succeed in their studies. Students will be required to evidence their previous grades at enrolment and will be subject to a successful interview with a member of staff on campus.
