About the School

Public Services offers public services and military preparation courses that equip students with the skills needed to succeed. The department’s strong links with the West Yorkshire Police, Army, Royal Navy, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and West Yorkshire Ambulance Service, provide a real insight into students’ particular areas of interest. We also work with Safeguard Armour who generously donated protective clothing for our courses.

FAQs

How many days a week will I study?

Students have been attending for two full days in college each week. Students have been provided with resources to complete work away from the campus for a further day a week.

I don’t like exams, is this course right for me?

All of our courses are coursework-based apart from students re-sitting their English and maths. You will be assessed through a range of practical activities, written assignments and tutor observation.

Does the college offer any financial support for students?

Students are able to apply for the college bursary which can pay for travel passes, college meals and trips or visits. Students with children can also gain support with childcare to support their studies.

How much information will I receive from about my child’s progress?

You will receive course information and will be invited to welcome events where you can meet al tutors and coaching tutors. You can discuss your child’s progress in person, over the phone or through email with course leaders and coaching tutors.

Does this qualification allow students to join the police?

It depends on which qualification, the Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma enable learners to leave the course with 104 UCAS points. This is the criteria for the new police apprenticeship programme. Students can also progress to university and join the police at a later stage through their post-graduate diploma in professional policing practice.
