Introduction

This qualification is aimed at practising or aspiring managers who supervise or manage a team, or project officer and shift manager to achieve clearly defined outcomes. It will teach you how to set and monitor goals and objectives by providing instruction, direction and guidance.

Upon completing the Certificate and Diploma qualifications you will be eligible for Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) Status. Putting aspiring and early-career managers on a guided development pathway to becoming a fully-fledged Chartered Manager.

Overview

You will study a range of management and leadership topics such as how to manage data and information and how to manage a team to achieve results. You’ll learn how to manage volunteers and individuals. You’ll also learn how to respond to conflict in the workplace.

Please note that there will be an induction session one week before the start of the course.

  • 318 - Managing Data and Information: Addresses methods for managing, analysing, and utilising data and information to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • 331 - Approaches to Managing and Leading People and Teams: Develops an understanding of management and leadership theory and styles, and the practical methods that can be employed to lead people and teams with impact.
  • 332 - Stakeholder Communication for First Line Managers: Explores the role of effective communication in working practice, and how this can be used to build and sustain successful collaborative relationships.
  • 337 - Professional Development as a First Line Manager: Contributes to an organisation's ability to succeed. This unit supports career progression, the development of knowledge, capabilities, personal growth and motivation.
  • 338 - Budgeting for First Line Managers: Provides knowledge on managing financial and physical resources, including budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • 340 - Supporting People Throughout the Employee Life Cycle: First Line Managers will have developed an understanding of the employee life cycle and know how to effectively contribute to the development of people.

Entry requirements

Good Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Strong skills in English and basic mathematics (Level 2 (GCSE level 4 or above) or equivalent) are required to effectively engage with course materials and assessments. Applicants not holding qualifications must complete assessments to demonstrate their competence.

Basic Knowledge of Management Concepts: While formal qualifications are not required, a basic understanding of management principles or prior experience in a supervisory role is beneficial.

Relevant Work Experience: Some experience in a management or supervisory capacity is advantageous but not mandatory.

Commitment to Study: A willingness to dedicate time and effort to complete the coursework and assessments is essential.

Motivation to Develop Leadership Skills: An eagerness to improve personal management and leadership capabilities is important for the successful completion of the diploma.

Assessment types

Learners will be assessed by a variety of means, primarily via written assessments; however there will be a variety of methods across each of the units. Assessments will include: Reports, Scenarios, Case studies, Presentations, Reflections on own experience etc.
