Overview
The City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles is designed to develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to begin a career in the automotive industry.
You will learn how key vehicle systems operate and develop the skills required to carry out routine servicing, maintenance, fault finding and component replacement on cars and light commercial vehicles. The course combines practical workshop activity with classroom-based learning, helping you understand both how vehicles work and how to work safely and professionally within an automotive environment.
Throughout the programme, you will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as vehicle servicing, engines, braking, steering and suspension, electrical systems and the removal and replacement of components. You will also build important employability skills, including communication, problem-solving, accurate recording of work and working effectively with others.

Entry requirements
You will normally need a minimum of a Grade 4 in either GCSE English or GCSE Maths.
You will also be required to successfully complete an automotive aptitude assessment before enrolment. This assessment helps us make sure that the course is the right level for you and that you are ready to succeed on the programme.
Individual circumstances and prior learning may also be considered as part of the enrolment process.
Available apprenticeships and progression options
Ability to apply for Motor Vehicle technician roles in both dealership and small enterprises. Progression to L3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and MOT Testing thereafter
