Overview

This Level 2 Food and Drink Process Operator apprenticeship provides the opportunity to gain practical experience working in a busy food-to-go environment while developing skills in food preparation, customer service and retail operations. The role is based within a Greggs food-to-go operation at a BP petrol station and focuses on preparing and serving food and beverages while maintaining high standards of food quality, safety and customer service.

Apprentices will develop practical skills in food preparation, operating ovens and other equipment, stock control, product presentation and till operation. The role involves following food safety and allergen procedures, checking product dates and temperatures, rotating stock, monitoring food levels, maintaining clean and hygienic work areas, processing customer payments, supporting promotions and working effectively with colleagues during busy periods.

The apprenticeship is suited to someone who is friendly, patient, organised, reliable and confident working as part of a team. Good communication, attention to detail, customer care and basic number skills are important for the role. Alongside practical workplace experience, apprentices will complete the Level 2 Food and Drink Process Operator qualification with Luminate Education Group. The training schedule is yet to be finalised, and there is potential for a full-time role upon successful completion.

• Develop practical food preparation and service skills while following food and drink production procedures and maintaining required quality standards.
• Learn how to safely use ovens, food preparation equipment, tools and other machinery, as well as clean and maintain equipment correctly.
• Develop knowledge of food safety, hygiene, allergen awareness, temperature control and safe food-handling procedures.
• Learn how to monitor, check and rotate stock, manage product dates, maintain food availability and reduce waste.
• Develop retail and customer service skills, including operating tills, processing payments, maintaining displays and providing a friendly and professional service.
• Learn how to follow health and safety, fire, security, environmental and sustainability procedures, including recycling and appropriate waste disposal.
• Develop problem-solving skills by identifying and reporting issues, using basic fault-finding techniques and contributing to continuous improvement.
• Develop professional skills in communication, teamwork, organisation, using IT, recording information and following written and verbal instructions.
• Complete a nationally recognised Level 2 Food and Drink Process Operator qualification alongside practical workplace experience.
