Are you exploring careers in policing?

Do you need qualifications to support your next steps? We can support potential applicants for the West Yorkshire Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme who require 80 UCAS points as well as GCSE English & maths grade 4's.

This course is eligible for the Free Courses for Jobs funding. Please note the fees for anyone 19 + may be zero depending on your circumstances, please enquire for more information.

Overview

This course is designed to create a pathway to support a career change or upskilling for a transition to a career within policing or another emergency service.

We offer flexible start and end dates to enable you to start and finish throughout the academic year.

This level 3 course will offer you the option to complete either the Level 3 Introductory Certificate (3 Months), or progress to the Level 3 720 Diploma (12 Months) depending on the requirements of your next destination.

The course is run over two full days in college to support work or caring commitments.

Having the opportunity to meet a range of emergency services and armed forces personnel, undertake riot training, experience outdoor pursuits, explore the entry fitness tests and visit a prison.

Available apprenticeships and progression options

The Level 3 qualification offers a wide range of progression opportunities. The majority of our learners apply for the West Yorkshire Police Degree Apprenticeship Scheme or apply for a range of university courses. Following completion of the course many learners have been successful with application in the Armed Forces, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Prison and Probation Service and Fire and Rescue Services across the county.

Police Officer - As a police officer, you will uphold law and order through the detection, prevention, and investigation of criminal activity. Your role will encompass tasks such as working alongside communities, conducting patrol duties, interviewing suspects, and diffusing volatile situations. You may choose to specialise in a specific area such as drugs, child protection, fraud, or traffic. You will need to have strong communication skills including empathy, tact, and diplomacy. In addition, you will be good at solving problems and able to work well within a team.
