Course Information
Introduction
Lights, camera, action! This creative programme is designed to teach you the technical skills needed to succeed in the media production industry. You’ll work to industry standard on client briefs. You’ll also gain an understanding of emerging technologies within TV and film and will leverage work experience and enterprise opportunities for personal development.

Overview
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for those who are looking to get into film and TV production. Using our industry standard equipment including our TV studio, gallery and editing suites, you will learn to plan and create exciting content.
In the first year you will learn:
- Production Skills (Camera, Lighting, Sound, Editing)
- Narrative Skills (Ideas development, Script writing, Writing tools)
- Film Studies
- Academic Skills
These skills will then be put into practice through the completion of industry standard briefs to contextualise your learning.
In the second year you will build on those core skills into more specialised areas and roles within the industry:
- Advanced Production Skills (Advanced kit, larger production skills, set design)
- Editing Skills (Learn more industry level software)
- Personal Development (Looking at the industry and your place within it)
All these skills and areas have been developed in collaboration with industry professionals to help you succeed in your journey towards being an industry professional.
Yorkshire is becoming one of the largest hubs for media production in the country, being home to ITV, Channel 4 and having significant bases for the BBC and the British film industry as well as many small production houses. We have connections to local businesses within Leeds that offer students trips, work experiences or to give guest talks, providing an insight into industry.

- Form crews to plan, film and edit your own film productions
- Learn a range of technical skills including camerawork, lighting and sound
- Develop both theoretical and practical approaches to post-production processes using software from the Adobe Creative Suite
- Create programmes using our state-of-the-art TV studio and field recording equipment
- Gain industry insight and develop a professional approach to media production and the industry
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language, or equivalent, and maths.
Available apprenticeships and progression options
Students who complete this course will have the opportunity to move on to university, an apprenticeship, film schools or relevant employment.
