T Level Insight Day: Showcasing the importance of working with employers to support students in future careers

Posted: May 3, 2023

We collaborated with the Association of Colleges in April to shine a light on T Levels.

The T Level insight day, held at our Printworks campus, brought together industry experts to discuss key issues that are affecting their sectors. It also highlighted the importance of colleges and businesses working closely together to deliver successful work placements.

A T Level is a new, two-year qualification that is equivalent to three A levels. Courses involve a mixture of classroom teaching and industry placements. Based on forging strong bonds with employers, they are tailored to give students the most useful skills for their future careers.

The insight day was an opportunity to provide information about the new wave of T Level providers for September, and showcased our commitment to promoting student success and industry growth.

The discussions delved into the benefits and challenges encountered in the delivery of T Levels, and the speakers shared ways that providers can work together to improve provision while preparing students for the future.

Rowena Scott, Head of Applied Science, gave an overview of the T Level landscape and how the college is working with employers to support students in gaining the knowledge and skills they need to secure jobs in their chosen field.

Robert Whitehead, Deputy Head of School of Digital & IT, highlighted the significance of teaming up with companies such as IBM and COPTRZ to provide students with hands-on experience.

He said: “It was great to be involved in the T Level insight day, where we could talk about how we’ve developed T Level courses with a focus on creating vital partnerships with employers.”

Emma Langford, Head of Education and Childcare, also led a discussion on the positives and challenges faced in the delivery of the courses, and gained some valuable insights from the guests.

The event was a great success, with the attendees leaving with a better understanding of the importance of T Levels and the need for strong partnerships between providers and employers.
