About the School
Health Science and Social Care offers a range of professional courses which are supported by hands-on experience through practical learning and local work placements in health and social care. Students are taught in professional facilities by experienced professionals. The department is also endorsed by Skills for Care.
Medical areas, modern classrooms, bespoke learning spaces for nutrition, manual handling, practical care and independent learning, and work experience opportunities with established services.
Will these courses allow my child to study at university?
It depends on the course that your child is studying. For example, completion of the Health and Social Care Technical Extended Diploma Level 3 two-year course is equivalent to three A levels and will provide a student with up to 168 UCAS points (depending on final grade) which meets the entry requirements for many relevant degrees.
What support is available alongside my child’s course?
Each student has a coaching tutor who will see them for 1-2-1 reviews and are a great first port of call. We also have a student support coordinator in the team who specialises in wellbeing and safeguarding as well as any additional learning support needs. Additionally, Leeds City College has college-wide services available including careers, counselling, financial support, and the Students’ Union.
What industry links do you have?
We have links with Leeds City Council, Westwood Care, Aspire, St Mary’s Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, and Leeds and York Partnership Trust. We are also a Skills for Care endorsed provider.
What are the progression routes from these courses?
Progression routes are available from Level 1 to Level 3 within the department. University Centre Leeds also offers degrees in Health and Wellbeing, Healthcare Play Specialism and Social Care (Adult and Community) as a further progression route for Level 3 students.
Which campus are you based at?
We are based at Quarry Hill Campus.
We are committed to making sure all students and staff are protected from harm. All staff are trained in safeguarding and child protection and our dedicated safeguarding team is on hand for advice and support. Don’t stay silent, we are here for you.
