Personal, Social, Health and Economic education
All students take part in a structured tutorial programme, which forms an essential part of their college experience. These sessions are designed to support students’ personal, social and academic development, ensuring they are fully prepared for life in modern Britain. Through a carefully planned programme of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education), students explore a wide range of relevant and contemporary topics that reflect the world around them.
Our tutorial programme is tailored to each student’s curriculum area by experienced staff, ensuring that the content is meaningful, engaging and directly relevant to their chosen pathway. While sessions are adapted to meet the needs of different subject areas, all students follow a core programme that focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to live safely, successfully and happily in their future lives.
A key focus of tutorials is helping students to understand themselves and the world around them. Students are encouraged to reflect on their values, strengths and aspirations, building confidence and resilience as they progress through their studies. They also explore important issues such as relationships, diversity, equality and current affairs, enabling them to develop informed viewpoints and respect for others.
Keeping safe is a central theme throughout the tutorial programme. Students are provided with up-to-date information and guidance on how to manage risk, both in their personal lives and online. Topics such as safeguarding, digital safety, consent and personal responsibility are explored in a supportive and informative environment, helping students to make safe and responsible choices.
Health and wellbeing are also prioritised, with sessions focusing on both physical and mental health. Students learn strategies to manage stress, maintain a healthy lifestyle and access support when needed. This ensures they are equipped not only to succeed academically, but also to maintain a positive sense of wellbeing during their time at college and beyond.
In addition, tutorials support students to develop the skills needed to get along with others and contribute positively to society. Communication, teamwork and respect are embedded throughout the programme, helping students to build strong relationships and work effectively with a wide range of people. Students are also encouraged to become active and responsible citizens, understanding their role within their communities and wider society.
All elements of the tutorial programme are underpinned by British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are woven throughout the sessions, supporting students to develop into thoughtful, respectful and engaged members of society.
Our tutorial programme gives every student an equal opportunity to develop the essential life skills and knowledge they need to thrive, both during their time at college and in their future careers and personal lives.
