Business Administration apprentice James Pearson is committed to representing the voices of young people in West Yorkshire through his work.

James began his journey at Leeds City College in 2024, where he studied Level 3 Public Services with aspirations of joining the police.

After volunteering at CATCH Leeds, a local charity who help vulnerable people to reach their full potential, he developed a passion for supporting young people in the community.

Encouraged by the CEO of CATCH and after learning more about the benefits of on-the-job training, James started an  apprenticeship with the charity in September 2025- a Level 3 in Business Administration.

James is committed to building a career where he can make a positive difference. Since beginning his apprenticeship, he has taken on a variety of opportunities to achieve this.

In July, James spoke alongside the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, representing the voices of young people across the region.

He said: “Standing alongside Tracy Brabin, was a moment I’ll never forget. Seeing a room full of people ready to listen and act, reminded me of the importance of community, and collaboration.”

James is also an ambassador for the Yorkshire and Humber Apprenticeship Network, a group of apprentices and employers committed to inspiring young people, supporting local communities and championing the value of apprenticeships.

He said: “You don’t fully understand what an apprenticeship has to offer unless you jump into it. I took the risk, and it was worth it.”

More recently, James was named Runner-Up Apprentice of the Year in Business at our annual Alf Cooke Awards which recognise student achievements throughout the year.

He said: “I’m really proud of this recognition and grateful for the support l’ve had throughout my apprenticeship so far. It’s been a journey of growth, learning, and stepping into opportunities that have pushed me forward.”

James has reflected on his apprenticeship saying: “My apprenticeship with Leeds City College has given me the confidence to use my voice in the community. While working in the third sector, which has allowed me to turn my lived experience into real impact, supporting young people and speaking up for those who often go unheard.”
