Your Health Your Career launch event at Printworks

Last week, Leeds City College’s Printworks Campus hosted the launch of Your Health, Your Career, a new digital careers platform supporting current and future members of the health and care workforce across West Yorkshire.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders involved in the development of the platform, including Careers Compass, Leeds Health and Care Academy, Leeds City Council and Leeds City College, who shared insights into the platform’s purpose and impact.

Your Health, Your Career

Your Health, Your Career is designed for individuals considering a career change within the health and care sector, particularly those who are living with one or more of the following conditions:

  • Mental health conditions, such as anxiety and/or depression
  • Musculoskeletal conditions, including chronic pain and/or mobility issues
  • Neurodivergence, including autism and/or ADHD

The platform supports a range of career transitions, including changing roles or employers, retraining, relocating, entering the workforce for the first time, or returning to employment following a period of ill health or unemployment.

It helps users plan their entry into the health workforce by:

  • Providing clear information on available health and care roles, including detailed role-specific videos
  • Showcasing over 200 live opportunities for users to explore
  • Offering personalised career recommendations

Shaped by Leeds City College students

The platform already has more than 1,700 users, the majority of whom are aged 16 to 19 and currently studying at college.

Leeds City College played an integral role in the early development of Your Health, Your Career, with learners engaging in early demonstrations of the platform and providing feedback that helped shape the final version.

At the launch event, Genevieve Martin, Teaching and Learning Development Manager for Health Science and Social Care at Leeds City College, delivered a presentation highlighting how learners have been using the platform in sessions delivered by the Careers Compass team.

During these sessions, students explored job roles, completed assessments and reflected on their results to support career progression. Feedback gathered from learners was then shared with Career Compass to inform ongoing improvements to the platform.
