The King’s Trust

The King’s Trust was founded in 1976, when His Majesty King Charles III (previously His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales) noticed young people in the UK were not receiving adequate help and support to move into education, employment or training. To date, The King’s Trust has helped one million young people find the tools and confidence to achieve their dreams.

Our projects with The Trust enables Leeds City College to support health and social care, provide access to the STEM industry, and equip young people in Leeds with skills and employment.

Health & Social Care Programme

If you’ve always wanted to help others, then this is your chance to use your skills in a life-changing industry. Our healthcare-based employment initiative guarantees you an interview in just six weeks!

  • Project Overview

Did you know that there are, on average, over 100,000 vacancies in the NHS at any given time? It’s not only on the front line either – crucial work takes place every day behind the scenes. By getting skilled people into employment, we can ensure our National Health Service continues to thrive and helps those who need it most.

It’s not just the NHS that you can access – you can also work in a whole host of roles across the private sector including care homes, dentists, foster care homes and nurseries. We’re aiming to get 75 adults, aged 18-30 years old, into employment and place them in positions ranging from clinical support roles to administration and corporate services.

  • Available careers

The sectors and examples of the roles we are recruiting for include:

Administration – receptionists, health record administrators
Clinical Support – healthcare assistants, care support workers
Corporate Services – HR, IT support, PR and communications
Domestic Services – catering assistants, cleaning operatives, hospital porters
Estate Services – maintenance workers, electricians, plumbers
Support Services – security officers, health & safety advisors

  • Each candidate will receive:
    • Four weeks of accredited training in the sector you’re interested in – Training will take place in college and will be delivered by college staff and staff from The Prince’s Trust. Your training allows you to earn qualifications for your sector in job-specific skills, such as customer service, essential digital skills or safeguarding.
    • A two week placement with an employer – We will secure you work experience with an organisation where you can put the skills you’ve learnt into practice.
    • A skills-review and preparation week supported by the National Careers Service – This is where your overall skills development will be reviewed by your programme mentor. You will also receive interview and employability support in areas including interview question preparation, staging mock interviews, and/or individualised coaching with your mentor.
    • A guaranteed interview – You will have the opportunity to interview for paid, full-time employment with either the company/business who hosted your work experience or another health and social care employer.
  • Who’s it for?

Anyone who is 18-30 years old, wanting to work in the NHS, private healthcare or social care, and who is either finishing a college course; not in education, employment or training; or looking to change careers.
