Introduction
This course is for anyone wanting an exciting and rewarding career in the sports, coaching and active leisure industries. You will develop an understanding of the benefits of regular participation in sport and physical activity, whilst also developing your coaching and leadership skills. The course involves various practical elements. A keen motivation to participate in a variety of sports is essential.
Overview
This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in sport and active leisure and has been mapped to CIMSPA professional standards for the sports industry. This means that you will have achieved the entry requirement for employment as a sports coach for children upon successful completion of this qualification. It will enable you to develop the skills and behaviours that are required for this job role and give you the best opportunity to be successful in applying for work.

Benefits and skills
This BTEC Level 2 qualification will prepare you for work or an Apprenticeship by giving you the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge, technical and practical skills, and to apply these skills in work-related environments.
The course involves a mixture of theory and practical sessions relating to sport, coaching and active leisure, enabling you to develop a deeper understanding of this fascinating and ever-growing industry.
Entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 3 including English and maths or equivalent.
Available apprenticeships and progression options
As well as employment options, this qualification gives you a sound basis to progress to a Level 3 qualification such as the BTEC Level 3 National in Sport Coaching and Development or the BTEC Level 3 National in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training for example.
Assessment types
Assessment is through a variety of coursework-based methods including observations, presentations, case studies and assignments. There are no exams.
