Introduction

Specialist teaching assistants support learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), social and emotional wellbeing, or work within specific curriculum areas such as forest schools, English as an Additional Language (EAL), subject-specific interventions, or music education.

Overview

Specialist Teaching Assistants provide tailored support to learners – building positive relationships with students and their families, promoting development and enhancing learning through activities and the creation of inclusive, supportive environments. They may also use their expertise to support colleague development. Working under teacher supervision, Specialist Teaching Assistants play a key role in advancing student progress while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
