Apprenticeship Information

Introduction

Metal Fabricators create or repair structures and components from metal, working on projects like bridges, ships, machinery, and enclosures using steel joists, plates, and sheet metal.

Overview

Metal Fabricators work across sectors like engineering, construction, and the maritime sector, creating or repairing metal structures such as bridges, ships, oilrigs, and machinery parts. They use materials like steel, aluminium, and titanium, working with varying thicknesses and component sizes – from handheld parts to large structures. Fabricators operate in factories or on-site, either independently or in teams. They interpret technical specifications, ensure quality and accuracy, and follow strict health, safety, and environmental regulations. Daily interaction includes collaborating with supervisors, welders, designers, and other technical staff involved in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair process.
