Course Information
Introduction
The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Early Years is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical training relevant to the T Level.
The Level 3 Technical Qualification (TQ) in Education and Early Years has 2 specialist routes for students to choose from:
- Early Years Educator (Quarry Hill Campus)
- Assisting Teaching (Quarry Hill Campus and Pudsey Sixth Form)
You are required to attend onsite classes and carry out work placement with a primary or secondary school through the course.
Who is this course for?
The Technical Qualification is primarily aimed at post 16 year old students who wish to progress into the education and childcare sector. This qualification will equip young people with the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to enter skilled employment.
Benefits and skills
The outline content for this qualification was devised by T Level panels. The panels consisted of employers and industry stakeholders. We have worked in partnership with employers and other stakeholders to elaborate the content further, create the assessments and set the standards to ensure students achieve the level of competence needed to enter skilled employment.
This qualification aims to provide students with a number of progression options, including higher-level studies at University or FE colleges. Within the course there is a focus on developing the following skills:
- checking and testing information
- supporting points with evidence
- self-directed study
- self-motivation
- thinking for yourself
- analysing and synthesising information/materials
- critical thinking and problem solving
- working collaboratively
- reflecting upon learning and identifying improvements
- presenting information in written and verbal formats.
Level 3 criteria can require students to analyse, draw conclusions, interpret or justify, which are all examples of higher-level skills and support progression and further learning. If you need any further information, please refer to the NCFE CACHE website.
|To achieve this qualification, the student must successfully demonstrate their achievement of the Core Component and one Occupational Specialism Component.

Occupational Specialism – Assisting Teaching
- Support the class Teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
- Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with Teachers and other adults
- Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
- Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), to support development and access to the curriculum
Entry requirements
5 x GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, must include English and Maths.
