Course Information

Introduction

This qualification is for learners who aim to gain employment within the animal care industry, or progress to an apprenticeship or a high level animal management qualification. This course is specifically designed for adult learners that are looking for a career change or to progress onto HE.

Overview

This qualification can be studied as a one-year full-time course, or as part of a two-year, full-time study programme. The advanced technical diploma is a standalone qualification, but can form one half of the advanced technical extended diploma in animal management should learners wish to complete the two-year programme.

The course includes both practical and theoretical elements preparing learners for a career within the animal management sector or for further study. This course is delivered 2 days per week at Temple Newsam, there is however a requirement for learners to complete work from home and engage with work independently.

Transport to Temple Newsam

There is a campus bus organised by the department, this departs at 8.40am from Leeds Bus Station and picks learners up at 4.30pm. The bus is payable onboard or termly, the cost is £5 per learner per week. Learners can book the bus when they have enrolled on a course with us. For learners on bursary they will be issued a free bus pass once their bursary application is assessed.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for learners that are 19+ and are looking at undertaking further study, progressing onto an HE qualification or looking for a career change.

Benefits and skills

Learners are taught by subject specialists who have worked in a variety of contexts within the animal management sector. In addition, learners have access to a wide variety of species, including small mammals and exotics, housed within our purpose built animal care centre. Learners will also undertake farm practicals at Home Farm within the Temple Newsam estate.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s including English, maths and science or academic equivalent qualification.

Available apprenticeships and progression options

Learners are able to progress onto the City and Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management or the Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Behaviour. There are also progression opportunities for employment or apprenticeships.
