About the Employer

Nestled between Leeds and Harrogate, the Harewood Estate spans 4500 acres of breathtaking landscapes, including parkland, woodland, farmland, wetland, moorland, and conservation areas, with Harewood House as its focal point. With a rich history of food production spanning centuries, the Estate remains a hub of agricultural activity, boasting a bounty of fruits, vegetables, meat, game, and wild foraged foods. Our goal is to harness the culinary heritage of the Harewood Estate, utilizing its resources to promote positive change in the food industry. Since taking over the reins of Muddy Boots Cafe & Bistro nestled in the Harewood Estate in July 2018, we’ve poured our hearts into crafting an inviting space that exudes warmth and hospitality. Following a thorough refurbishment in March 2019, Muddy Boots Cafe underwent a transformative journey, emerging as a haven for those seeking quality, value, and locally sourced culinary delights. At Muddy Boots, our philosophy is simple yet profound: to serve up delicious, home-cooked fare made from the freshest ingredients sourced from our esteemed local suppliers and the renowned Harewood Estate. Whether it’s a hearty breakfast to start your day or a comforting dinner to wind down, our menu is thoughtfully curated to satisfy every palate. But we’re not just about food; we’re about fostering a sense of community and inclusivity. Our cafe welcomes furry companions with open arms, priding ourselves on being both dog-friendly and people-friendly. Here, everyone is embraced, from families enjoying a leisurely brunch to friends gathering for a memorable evening at our esteemed Bistro nights.

Things to Consider

The role will primarily be situated at Muddy Boots Cafe and Bistro, with occasional assignments at The Hovels for ad hoc events during the apprenticeship.

Training to be Delivered

During your apprenticeship you will be enrolled at Leeds City College (School of Food and Drink) and will complete the following programme:

Level 2 Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship Standard

Functional Skills in English and Maths (if required).

This programme allows students to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviours through the practical period which can be delivered at college, as well as on-the-job training delivered in the workplace by your employer.

The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they have to be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example during busy periods. Specialist areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation, housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting.

The most important part of the role is developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge such as recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer feels welcomed and looked after.

Duration & start date:

This is a 15-month apprenticeship (12 months for the practical period and 3 months for the end point assessment).
