Overview

What you will do in your working day

  • To effectively deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage in line with current practice and guidelines
  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Nursery Manager or Deputy Nursery Manager
  • Implement and promote all Nursery policies and procedures
  • Undertake a proactive key person role and build positive relationships with parents/carers and other professionals to support the individual needs of every child
  • Provide a secure, caring, friendly and stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
  • Contribute to the planning and develop enriching activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes
  • Ensure children’s records are maintained and kept up to date including records of children’s development and learning journeys
  • Act as a positive practice role model to ensure that the Nursery’s values are maintained
  • Maintain high standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness at all times
  • Ensure that all rooms and outside areas are clean and tidy after use
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, and observe and follow the health and safety policy and procedures at all times
  • Liaise with parents and carers, keeping them informed of activities undertaken, their child’s progress with these activities, as well as the child’s general development and wellbeing
  • Be sensitive and responsive to the needs of children, parents and carers and other members of staff
  • Support a commitment to the theory and practice of equal opportunities
  • Demonstrate initiative and get involved at all times to make a difference to the quality of care that the Nursery provides
  • Feedback any issues or opportunities identified around the site that could impact on the quality of care provided
  • Support team in the upkeep of base rooms, displays, resources, etc.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times with children, parents, visitors and work colleagues
  • Ensure confidentiality, where appropriate, is maintained
  • Be aware of the high reputation of the setting and uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
  • Work as part of a team to ensure good communication
  • Attend and participate in out of work activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, parent events/consultation
  • Be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as reasonably requested by line management

About the Employer

Shine childcare have 4 nurseries, one in Leeds, one in Oldham, one in Halifax and one in Huddersfield. We are the Leeds site and hold 163 children per day. All our nurseries are grade 2 listed buildings. We are located just outside of Leeds City Centre in the Woodhouse area of North Leeds. Our impressive nursery and secure outdoor space includes multiple outdoor play areas and a little woodland. Our high standard of care allows us to be regarded as one of the best nurseries in Leeds. We offer a stunning space with dedicated indoor and outdoor areas for children to learn, play and develop. Outdoor play is important to us. Our grounds allow for a stimulating and safe environment for all children attending the nursery. Our spacious rooms are bright and very well resourced. The nursery is specially designed to promote learning and development within a nurturing and stimulating environment. As well as catering for children aged 0 to 5, we have a fun, activity based Holiday Club. We open during all school holidays and are available to all children of school age.

Training to be Delivered

Level 3 Early Years Educator Standards.

Apprentices will undertake their training within the rooms as well as having time out of the rooms to participate in seminars, continue written work and attend meetings with tutors etc.
We also provide in house training to support our staff continuous professional development:

  • Baby training
  • Safer food better business
  • Annual safeguarding training

Mode of delivery:

  • A mix of blended learning including day release in college, online classes and tutor workplace visits

Course content:

The Level 3 Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with the workplace, you will be expected to attend college/online meetings and face to face meetings with your tutor, where you will gain knowledge and understanding of working within the early years sector.

You will develop skills on the job where you will be supported by a workplace mentor.

An Assessor from Leeds City College will visit you on a regular basis to support your learning journey.

The Apprenticeship Standards comprises of:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours for the Level 3 Early Years Educator

Functional Skills qualifications:

  • Level 2 Functional Skill in English
  • Level 2 Functional Skill in maths
  • Training will include paediatric first aid qualification

End point assessment:

  • Observation of practice with question and answer
  • Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
