Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Assist in setting up and operating conventional and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, milling, grinding) to produce precision machined parts in line with production requirements
- Monitor machine performance and component quality; make adjustments to feeds, speeds or tooling to maintain accuracy and efficiency
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions and technical documentation to plan and execute machining tasks
- Produce, validate and assist with editing CNC programmes where required
- Inspect machined components using appropriate gauges and measuring equipment to ensure conformity with tolerances and specifications
- Report and document discrepancies, defects or deviations and assist with corrective action
- Support continuous improvement and quality improvement initiatives within the department
- ttend and engage in off-the-job training provided by the apprenticeship training provider
- Build competence in the apprenticeship standard’s knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) through guided practice and formal learning
- Prepare for and complete assessments, including practical demonstrations, technical interview and knowledge test at end-point assessment (EPA)

The enterprise began by producing plain pedestal bearings for coal mining pit tubs. Expansion came with the rapid mechanisation of the collieries and the need for chain conveying equipment. In the early days it was supply to one industry in one region.
The Company has enjoyed unrivalled success and expansion in the last decade. Today it operates from five locations Worldwide and exports mechanical handling equipment to over 65 countries.
The business is now focused on provision of a total supply package to the materials handling industry. Comprising chains & sprockets to conveyor systems and their eventual installation and maintenance. John King Site Services division is the most recent addition to the equipment and supply portfolio.

All manufacturing is conducted within the dictates of ISO 9001 to the latest 2015 standard to ensure quality objectives are monitored and maintained.
