STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths – academic disciplines rapidly changing our careers and world. With technological and scientific discoveries being made all the time, this is an exciting world to work in – and vacancies and skills shortages create great job opportunities for all.
Demand for people working in STEM is high and is set to increase even more over the coming years. Having STEM skills not only makes you very employable, it also helps you identify problems, think creatively and analyse information more effectively.
We call this set of skills the STEM7:
Luminate Education Group, which includes Leeds City College, was awarded STEM Assured status in June 2023; an accreditation granted by the UK STEM Foundation, in recognition of advancing and promoting STEM education and careers.
The report highlighted that the group’s STEM provision is of a high quality, and is aligned with current and anticipated needs of the labour market.
Welcoming everyone as equal and valued members of the college community is something we’re incredibly passionate about at Leeds City College.
One way in which we want to show that the college is a safe and welcoming place is by becoming a College of Sanctuary, which is recognised by City of Sanctuary UK.
College of Sanctuary is an accreditation received by further education institutions that foster a culture of welcome and inclusion, which is led by three key principles:
We achieved a grade of ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features in June 2022.
The college was recognised for its passionate and expert staff, and their work with regional stakeholders to implement education programmes that best fit local employment opportunities.
The college’s provisions for both adults and student personal development were awarded ‘Outstanding’.
Printworks Kitchen & Bar won the ‘best café’ accolade in 2019’s Yorkshire Evening Post Restaurant Oliver Awards. They continue to excel, and won the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ category at the 2023 awards.
