What Our Students Say

“So the tutors are great for a number of reasons – they’re casual, you don’t feel like you’re being forced to do anything that’s uncomfortable, they’re not strict, they’ll have a laugh with you if you want to and they know how to get stuff done when they need to if we’re on a bit of a time crunch, but they also know how to have a bit of fun and not put pressure on you – and they’re great, they’re always there to give you information if you need it for at-home tasks and they’re always on Google Hangouts to message you if you need anything and they get back to you really quickly.”

Rachel

“The decision that made me pick between here and other places was when I came to the open day everyone was just really friendly and open, and it just felt like a really welcoming environment to be in.”

Charli

“I decided to study at Leeds City College because I liked the equipment and the rooms that they had, and I liked how it was a whole new space – it had only recently been built so everything was brand spanking new and it looked really clean and really nice.”

Course Information

Introduction

Our Supported Engagement program at Park Lane Campus is the perfect choice for young people aged 16-24 (up to 19+ for those with an EHCP) who are seeking a full-time course to enhance personal growth and wellbeing. This course is designed to help students who may have experienced gaps in their education, have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), or are at risk of disengaging from education. We provide a nurturing environment for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Upon completion, students will have developed essential skills for future success and will be well-prepared to progress to Level 1 and 2 courses.

Overview

Our dedicated staff are SEMH trained and use relational and restorative practices to support students in re-engaging positively with education. Working in bespoke facilities with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, we offer an innovative learning experience that enables students to gain English and Maths qualifications alongside their chosen vocational study program.

Students can select from a range of vocational courses, including:

  • Art & Design
  • Business
  • Science
  • Sport & Fitness
  • IT
  • Health and Social Care
  • Hospitality and Catering

We can also offer alternative subjects based on demand. Full-time students can complete a Gateway award vocational course in their chosen subject, equivalent to Entry Level 3.

In addition to vocational courses, students have the option to participate in on-site work placements, such as Catering, Admin, and Reception work.

Start dates are available from September to January, with the possibility of accepting students post-January on a case-by-case basis. We offer enrichment activities to enhance employability and soft skills.

Weekly PSHCE and Digital Skills (ICT) lessons are part of the timetable. Students work towards their Maths and English qualifications (GCSE, Functional Skills or RARPA Maths and English). If a student has already achieved either Maths or English, they can re-sit the subject they have not passed while still maintaining a full-time schedule.

The majority of students who complete this course successfully progress onto a mainstream college course or secure employment.
