Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Welding Stainless Steel and Mild Steel to EN1090 coded welding qualifications/specifications
- Read manufacturing drawings and weld according to the plan
- Ensure Housekeeping is of a high standard
- Inspection of welds to ensure conformity to EN1090 and Drawing
- Planning welding operations before beginning
- Using in house job tracking software to digitally sign your work off
- Ensuring the work completed is of a high quality and every item has been inspected
- The use of Grinding, Cutting and Linishing equipment
- Manufacturing using Jigs and Fixtures
- Helping apprentices with their technique and understanding of welding/fabrication
- Ensuring welding equipment is set correctly, looking at gas ratio, drive rolls, wire spool hub welding wire and program number for butt/fillet and thickness of steel
- Reporting conflicting information on drawings/components not to specification
- Ensure equipment used is in calibration
- Ensure manufacturing tolerances are adhered to
- Maintain equipment in a condition which does not compromise safety
