Leeds City College staff member blossoms with latest floristry award
Julie Dickinson has been named the winner for “Pret a Porter” and Best in Show in Floristry at Harrogate Spring Flower Show in April 2019.
By day, Julie works part-time at Leeds City College in business support, but in her free time she’s devoted to creating breathtaking designs from fresh blooms.
Julie also competes professionally and has competed in multiple shows across the UK including a Gardeners’ World competition and the RHS Tatton Flower Show.
The floristry may be described by those outside the know as flower art, the skill is much more technical than it may seem. It involves a considered choice of design, materials, and techniques and blends creativity, a comprehensive knowledge of flowers, and the crafting ability to create intricate work.
Julie first forayed into floristry a decade ago, she then went on to take her floristry exams at Leeds City College where she passed with flying colours.
From there, her creations have gone from strength to strength. Julie now freelances in her spare time creating an array of detailed designs – some of which are even used at weddings.
Her recent victory joins a long list of accolades, and is actually her second time of winning 1st in the class and Best in Show.
She has also won silver at a Gardeners’ World competition and three silvers at the RHS Tatton Flower Show.
