Leeds City College goes the egg-stra mile to support young hospital patients

Posted: April 4, 2023

Leeds City College has delivered over 100 Easter treats to the young patients at Leeds General Infirmary.

Staff and students  have contributed towards the appeal, in an effort to bring joy to local young people who are facing life-altering illnesses.

Tara Marshall, who organised the appeal, said, ‘As a college, we’re aware that times are difficult for all young people right now.

‘The cost of living crisis means that some families have been struggling to provide their usual treats for their loved ones, which can be particularly tough on those battling serious illnesses.

‘After speaking with my sister, who is a paediatric nurse, I wanted to do something that would bring a smile to those going through a difficult time.’

Melissa Barnard is a nurse on one of the wards that received the treats, and was thrilled to accept the generous donation.

She said, ‘We are always so grateful to receive any donations for our patients. Whilst it might seem like a small thing, you can’t measure that little bit of joy it gives our young people and their families, whilst they are spending their bank holiday weekend in hospital.

‘We’re really thankful to Tara, her colleagues, and the students.’
