As a second-year student, you’ll expand on your scientific knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, diseases and infections. You’ll explore key and interesting topics such as biological molecules and metabolic pathways, as well as studying and discussing contemporary issues in today’s science world. You’ll also learn about experimental design and statistical analysis, and will walk away with a diploma that’s equivalent to two A levels.
Who is this course for?
This course is for first year learners who are moving into their second year of study on the Applied Science course and looking to take the next step towards a career in science. It is particularly ideal for individuals who want to combine academic study with practical skills, study in professional-standard facilities and take advantage of our industry links.

Entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or Maths, as well as a pass in the first-year Applied Science Extended Certificate course.
Available Apprenticeships and Progression options
You will progress to a second year of study to achieve your Diploma and overall Level 3 qualification, or start relevant employment.
Assessment types
A combination of internally assessed coursework and externally assessed exams.
