A practical route to becoming a teacher

Posted: October 26, 2022

For aspiring teacher Milly Dixon, T Levels seemed the natural next step towards starting her career.

Milly is in the second year of her Level 3 Technical Qualification in T Level Education and Childcare, specialising in assisting teaching.

She was attracted to the T Level due to its strong vocational focus and the fact that it would land her a qualification that is equivalent to three A levels.

All T Levels, which are recently introduced qualifications designed to offer an alternative to A levels, last two years and involve a mixture of classroom teaching and work placements.

For Milly, it was the in-built practical element that really appealed.

A great choice for me

She said: “So far I’ve found my T Level course to be really good. I’ve enjoyed the practical side, and being on placement, the most as that’s helped me learn loads more.

“When I was looking for a course, I wanted to only take one subject that was equivalent to three A levels so I could still get into university.

“I then found this T Level and thought it would be great for me. After this, I’m hoping to go on to uni so I can become a teacher.”

T Levels allow students to learn industry skills from the inside to get a head-start in their career – and there are no tuition fees if you start before you are 19.

At Leeds City College, we offer T Levels across a range of in-demand industries including: Business and Administration; Digital Production, Design and Development; Education and Childcare; Health and Science; and Engineering and Manufacturing.
