STEM

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths – academic disciplines rapidly changing our careers and world. With technological and scientific discoveries being made all the time, this is an exciting world to work in – and vacancies and skills shortages create great job opportunities for all.

Demand for people working in STEM is high and is set to increase even more over the coming years. Having STEM skills not only makes you very employable, it also helps you identify problems, think creatively and analyse information more effectively.

We call this set of skills the STEM7:

  1. Creative thinking
  2. Problem-solving
  3. Communication
  4. Collaborative working
  5. Intellectual curiosity
  6. Flexibility
  7. Data-driven decision-making

College of Sanctuary (November 2023)

Welcoming everyone as equal and valued members of the college community is something we’re incredibly passionate about at Leeds City College.

One way in which we want to show that the college is a safe and welcoming place is by becoming a College of Sanctuary, which is recognised by City of Sanctuary UK.

College of Sanctuary is an accreditation received by further education institutions that foster a culture of welcome and inclusion, which is led by three key principles:

  • Learn: schools help their students, staff and wider community learn about what it means to be seeking sanctuary and the issues surrounding forced migration
  • Embed: schools are committed to creating a safe and inclusive culture of welcome that benefits everybody, including anyone in their community seeking sanctuary
  • Share: schools share their values and activities with their local communities
