Introduction
This qualification is aimed at practising or aspiring managers and leaders who are typically accountable to senior manager or business owner. The primary role of a practising or aspiring manager and leader is to lead and manage individuals and teams to deliver aims and objectives in line with organisational strategy.
This course is ideal for middle managers.
Please note that there will be an induction session one week before the start of the course.

Who is this course for?
These qualifications are aimed at practising or aspiring managers and leaders who are typically accountable to a senior manager or business owner. The primary role of a practising or aspiring manager and leader is to lead and manage individuals and teams to deliver aims and objectives in line with organisational strategy. Roles and responsibilities may also include but are not limited to developing teams and individuals, creating operational plans, planning and managing projects, managing change, managing finance, resources and identifying new approaches to business activities, managing quality and continuous improvement as well as managing the human resources function.
Course units/modules
- 501 Principles of Management & Leadership in an Organisational Context: Examines key management and leadership principles within an organisational framework, focusing on their application to drive organisational success.
- 502 Principles of Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success: Covers strategies for effectively developing, managing, and leading individuals and teams to achieve high performance and meet organisational goals.
- 513 Managing Projects to Achieve Results: Provides insights into managing projects from initiation to completion, emphasising techniques for delivering successful outcomes and meeting project objectives.
- 514 Managing Change: Focuses on the strategies and processes required to manage organisational change effectively, including overcoming resistance and implementing change initiatives.
- 524 Conducting a Management Project: Involves carrying out a detailed management project that demonstrates the application of advanced management and leadership principles to real-world scenarios.
- 525 Using Reflective Practice to Inform Personal & Professional Development: Encourages the use of reflective practice to assess and enhance personal and professional development, fostering continuous improvement and growth.
Entry requirements
- Good Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Strong skills in English and basic mathematics (Level 2 (GCSE level 4 or above) or equivalent) are required to effectively engage with course materials and assessments. Applicants not holding qualifications must complete assessments to demonstrate their competence.
- Previous qualifications: Qualifications in management, leadership, or related fields with academic studies completed to at least level 3
- Good Knowledge of Management Concepts: An understanding of management & leadership principles with prior experience is required.
- Relevant Work Experience: Current employment in a management or leadership capacity is required.
- Commitment to Study: A willingness to dedicate time and effort to complete the coursework and assessments is essential.
- Motivation to Develop Leadership Skills: An eagerness to improve personal management and leadership capabilities is important for the successful completion of the diploma.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is a professional body – and the only chartered body - for management and leadership. Once registered for this qualification, you will automatically become a studying member, and upon completion will be eligible to become a Member of CMI (MCMI). You will also become eligible for Chartered Manager status via the Exemption Route.
Assessment types
Learners will be assessed by a variety of means, primarily via written assessments; however there will be a variety of methods across each of the units. Assessments will include: Reports, Scenarios, Case studies, Presentations, Reflections on own experience etc.
