Karen Young

Course Leader for Professional Cookery & Food and Drink Service

I studied a Diploma in Hospitality at Bolton College for three years which included front of house, professional cookery and bakery. I then worked in the industry as a professional chef developing my craft for a number of years in both large hotels and small boutique establishments.

Following training many junior chefs within the kitchen environment I engaged in workplace assessing at Harrogate College before joining Thomas Danby to teach full time. After a number of years I returned to the industry to update my own skills and knowledge
Four years ago I returned to Printworks campus to resume my teaching career and a year later took on the role of course leader for Professional Cookery and Food and Beverage Service developing and growing this area over the last 3 years. Over this time I have taken many learners on overseas work experience in France and Iceland as well as working with them on outside events such as Welcome to Yorkshire, pop up restaurant evenings alongside many industry chefs and the Yorkshire Show
The joy I get from this job is seeing our learners grow to their full potential and return to speak to the new students to aspire them to succeed.
