We are recruiting a Hospitality team member apprentice to support cooking and serving fresh and healthy food on a busy building site for up to 200 operatives.


  • To support the catering service at the Points Cross building site for the United Living Project.
  • This will involve preparing and cooking the food, service the site operatives and general cleaning duties.
  • The apprentice will also be required to help with the deliveries at Printwork stores and collect relevant supplies for the United Living project.
  • There will be opportunity to support the Catering Manager in planning menus, providing wellbeing information to the operatives and supporting additional catering opportunities.
  • The apprentice will undertake a Hospitality Team Member Standard L2 (production pathway).
  • The apprentice will be required to attend a college learning day once per week at Printwork Campus.
  • The apprentice will be required to achieve their level 1 Maths and English functional skills prior to gateway and also attempt their level 2 functional skills in both Maths and English (unless APL)
  • The apprentice will be required to maintain the food safety standards within the unit, completing all relevant documentation and adhering to all applicable legislation.
  • The apprentice will support the Catering Manager to support local charities by offering a regular hot meal and regular events, maintaining the department’s social responsibility and to meet the college ‘I’m in green’ agenda by planning all activities around recycling and sustainability

Training to be Delivered

Hospitality Team Member (Production Pathway)

By the employer, whilst working alongside your colleagues and college one day per week. Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Intermediate

Length of Programme 15 months (inclusive of 3 months end point assessment) Mode of delivery: day release at the Printworks campus.

All hospitality team members must have the following introductory knowledge:

  • Understand what hospitality means the culture of the industry and why delivering a customer experience to meet and exceed customer’s expectations is so important to hospitality businesses
  • Appreciate the importance of hospitality behaviours such as personal conduct, being adaptable, using initiative and communicating with a diverse range of people
  • Know the range of businesses and establishments that make up the hospitality industry, their differences and similarities and the variety of job roles and progression opportunities that are available

All hospitality team members must have the following core hospitality knowledge, skills, and behaviours:

  • Customer
  • Business
  • People

First line supervision / Team leading

They must then select from one of the following specialist functions:

  • Food and beverage service
  • Serving alcoholic beverages
  • Barista

Level 1 functional skills in maths and English must be achieved prior to gateway and the learner must also attempt their level 2 maths and English exams.

Functional skills does not apply if the apprentice already holds a grade A-C/9-4 in both English and maths.

  • Ideally grade 3 (9-1) in maths and English. However, we will support the right candidate to achieve these qualifications.
