The Overhead Line Design Team at Energyline consists of a mix of skillsets in the disciplines of Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Materials Engineering. Our outputs to our clients consist of a wide range of technical drawings and reports and your role would be to assist in the administration and production of these deliverables. The role involves compliance with industry standards and company best practice to ensure our work is of the utmost quality and provide a service to our clients that they can trust.

  • Preparation of 2d engineering drawings using AutoCAD
  • Preparation of 3D models using AutoCAD
  • Administration of QA systems/ spreadsheets
  • Collating and reviewing reference data
  • Interpreting technical drawings
  • Preparation of 3D models using Bentley MicroStation
  • Preparing engineering calculations from spreadsheets
  • Preparing design notes/ content for reports

About the Employer

Energyline Ltd is a fast-growing independent multi-disciplinary engineering, planning and environmental consultancy specialising in the design and consenting of power system projects including overhead lines and underground cables. Across the company they offer design solutions, planning and environmental consultancy expertise as well as site-based services including overhead line surveys, design studies relating to overhead lines and underground cable schemes, condition inspections, site investigations and engineering/ environmental surveys.

Things to Consider

The Copgrove site is not serviced by frequent public transport and therefore any applicants will need to bear this in mind.

We are an Engineering consultancy and therefore people that are not interested in solving problems and understanding how things work will find progression difficult.

Training to be Delivered

Engineering Technician (Technical Support Technician) Apprenticeship Level 3.

Apprenticeship Duration: 42 months plus 3 months EPA.

Training to be Provided:
This apprenticeship will be delivered through a mixture of college and work based learning. Successful candidates will attend our Printworks Campus one day per week (two days in the first year) to learn the skills/ knowledge required to be successful within this role. They will also receive a visit once a month in their place of work from their assessor, where delivery will take place on a one to one basis.

Technical Support Technicians, work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas of the Engineering and Manufacturing function including communications software, test, analysis tools, measurement, offline programming, process control, performance and continuous improvement solutions, capacity planning, production scheduling/planning, product technical applications and capability, technical sales and marketing support, product development and innovation, engineering drawing, purchasing and/or supply of goods or services for engineering activities, quality control, inspection and e-commerce technologies as required. The requirements are designed to offer stretch and progression. They will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of the work they undertake. They will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.

Employers must satisfy themselves that apprentices are ready for their end point assessment. Apprentices must demonstrate that they meet the following criteria:

  • Achieved a minimum Level 2 English and Maths (unless exempt)
  • Satisfactory completion of the formal training plan agreed with the apprentice by the employer
  • Sufficient evidence in the form of a portfolio to allow the apprentice to consistently demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours as described in the standard
  • Complete a minimum of 20% of their contracted hours allocated to off the job training

The end-point assessment is synoptic and takes place at the end of the apprentice’s learning and development (final three months).  It will consist of a performance assessment in the workplace – logbook / portfolio of evidence. Knowledge/practical assessments and assignments.

These are carried out after the apprentice has met the required criteria to pass the Gateway process. The apprenticeship is graded a pass, distinction or fail based on performance in the end-point assessment.

  • Functional Skill in English
  • Functional Skill in Maths

This standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

Desired Skills

Their ideal candidate would have good communication and time keeping skills and an ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Proficiency with MS Office suite of software would be advantageous as would a full clean UK driving license.

We would expect that, at a minimum, a permanent draughting role at Energyline would be well within your scope. We are moving offices to Copgrove, N. Yorkshire in 2023 where we also have workshop, testing and training facilities. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to engage in some of these activities.
