This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team at HairLife Hair Design as an Afro Hairdressing Apprentice. HairLife Hair Design have been trading since 1990 in Leeds and are Afro and Textured Hair Specialists.


What you will do in your working day

The job role will align with the Level 2 Hairdressing Professional Apprenticeship.

A typical day to day will include, meeting and greeting clients, keeping the salon clean and tidy, shampooing clients, gowning clients.

As the apprentice progresses they will be involved with cutting of hair, styling hair, shadowing Cleo who will be the mentor of the apprentice.

Other role roles will include the following:

  • You will be expected to provide exceptional customer service in person and on the phone/social media. When greeting clients they need to be made to feel welcomed and comfortable.
  • You will be expected to develop and expand your product and treatment knowledge to become an expert on what services we offer at the salon as well as develop your proficiency in the treatments and services and build your skills as a stylist.
  • You will be expected to help keep the salon and tools clean and tidy throughout the day this includes sweeping up, cleaning brushes and combs disinfecting tools and stations.
  • You will also be expected to get involved in salon marketing and communication which helps encourage new bookings and introduce new or existing services to existing and prospective clientele. This includes filming content in salon and making posts on social media Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.

Trading since 1990 the team at HairLife Hair Design have over 30 years experience in the industry and offer a range of services from natural hair, silk press, extensions, braiding, relaxer, permanent waves, keratin and colour treatments.

Training to be Delivered

Course information:

During your apprenticeship you will be enrolled at Leeds City College (School of Hair and Beauty) and will complete the following programme:

Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship.

Functional Skills (if required).

This programme allows students to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviours through the practical period which can be delivered at college or in the workplace, as well as on the job training delivered in the workplace by your employer.

The role overview of a hair professional is to provide a range of hairdressing services that meet client requirements, that are based on a comprehensive consultation, applicable industry tests, whilst maintaining exceptional client care skills, safe working practices, meeting legal, industry and organisation standards, procedures and protocols. Hairdressing Professionals are creative, passionate, and driven professionals who work without supervision. They provide a quality service, whilst working to the highest standards and continuously developing their personal and professional skills.

A Hairdressing Professional works in the hairdressing industry, which is one of the largest, most trusted and fashion forward professions. They take ownership of their work and client lists, accept responsibility, are proactive, flexible and adaptable, plan their work and time, they aim for excellence by taking exceptional pride in their work and industry.

This is a 24 month apprenticeship (21 months for the practical period and 3 months for the end point assessment).
