Frequently asked questions

We’ve added some answers below, but if you can’t get the
information you need please get in touch.

What is a vocational qualification?

Vocational Level 3 qualifications offer an alternative to A levels and a viable route into higher education. Courses last two years and students can choose their future route – whether that’s employment, university or a higher apprenticeship.

Key benefits

  • Option to go into employment rather than academic study
  • Focused teaching on chosen subjects
  • Specialist facilities to prepare for the working world
  • Link to strong industry partnerships for valuable work experience

What courses are available?

We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to education, which is why we offer a huge range of courses – including T Levels, apprenticeships, Access and Higher Education programmes.

T Levels are new Level 3 technical qualifications that sit alongside A levels and apprenticeships. The aim is to enhance the quality of technical education by allowing students access to greater employment opportunities. One T Level equals three A levels and by 2024, T Levels will be available across 25 different subjects. Find out more here.

If you’re interested in studying A levels, then our sister college – Leeds Sixth Form College – offers a huge range of A level courses that complement traditional and independent learning styles.

What are apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships combine studying with paid work. They allow students to specialise in a particular field and work towards a qualification through on-the-job experience.

Interested in an apprenticeship?

Leeds City College has a wide and varied apprenticeship offering, covering most industry sectors. Our apprenticeships start from GCSE to degree-level, enabling you to gain an education with on-the-job learning.

Why Leeds City College?

Leeds City College is proud to be rated Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted. Here are a few reasons why:

Cutting-edge campuses
With three campuses across Leeds – innovative Park Lane, modern Quarry Hill and historic Printworks – and education centres across the region, all students benefit from a motivating learning environment.

Fantastic facilities
We’re proud of our cutting-edge facilities, which include hi-tech science labs, a working Bistro, industry-standard hair and beauty salons, and a realistic air cabin.

Social and supportive
With a host of societies and activities, the Students’ Union makes you feel included from day one, while our support services can help you with any academic or personal concerns.

Are there rules on dress code?

Leeds City College embraces diversity and encourages individuality. Students are allowed to wear makeup, have piercings and dye their hair. Uniforms don’t have to be worn unless required by a specific course, but we do ask that students’ clothing is still appropriate for college.
