20% of employers in the wholesale and retail sector reported having experienced a skills shortage vacancy in the 2015 UKCES Employer Skills Survey.
Nationally wholesale and retail will see 3% growth in annual job openings between 2016 - 2022. Regionally, significant investment and development in Leeds will lead to a projected growth for this sector of 2.4%.
The most openings will be for sales & retail assistants, manager & directors, retail cashiers & check-out operators, sales supervisors and customer service managers & supervisors – all of these will require a minimum education of Level 2 (BTEC / NVQ / GCSE grades A*-C or equivalent)
A shortage of skilled trades will remain a key issue – butchers, bakers, fishmongers, IT Engineers – due to a shortage of applicants with the right skills.
