FAQs

How many days will I study and do I have to do exams?

The majority of groups are in college 2-3 days a week with additional days in work placements. All of our courses are coursework based apart from students re-sitting their English and maths GCSEs. You will be assessed through a range of practical activities, written assignments, tutor observations and controlled assessments on Level 3 programmes.

Does the Childhood and Education department have any partnerships?

Yes, we have a partnership with Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education (CACHE), who are the leading specialist awarding organisation for the care and education sector. We also work in partnership with Leeds City Council’s Early Years, Education and Safeguarding departments.

Does the college offer any financial support for students?

Yes, students can apply for the college bursary which can pay for travel passes, college meals and trips. Students with children can also gain support with childcare to support their studies.

How much communication will I receive about my child’s progress?

Parents and guardians will receive course information and be invited to welcome events where you can meet all all tutors and coaching tutors. You can discuss progress over the phone, in person or through email with course leaders and coaching tutors.

How can employers get involved with the Childhood and Education department?

All our students need to gain valuable work experience and we welcome employers who can offer placements for our students. Additionally, you can get involved in guest speaker sessions, employment fairs, job opportunities or become an apprenticeship provider.

Safeguarding

We are committed to making sure all students and staff are protected from harm. All staff are trained in safeguarding and child protection and our dedicated safeguarding team is on-hand for advice and support. Don’t stay silent, we are here for you.
