The qualification is suitable for a wide range of learners who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of allergy awareness. It has been carefully designed for those who wish to understand allergies, the causes of allergies and what to do in case of an allergic reaction, giving you a better understanding of both allergy diagnosis and treatment. The course will also teach you the critical importance of food labelling and packaging regulations.

Course Information

There are two mandatory units plus one optional unit which cater for those who work in childcare (Unit 3). This nationally-recognised qualification is delivered via distance learning, allowing you to choose when and where you study. Coursework will be completed using the online portfolio and marked by a qualified assessor, who will provide developmental feedback and overall grade.

Units / Modules

Unit 1: Allergens, allergies and intolerances

Learn the background knowledge behind allergies, allergens and intolerances. You will gain an understanding of how allergies and intolerances are diagnosed and treated.

Unit 2: Food labelling and packaging

Learn the different types of food labels and why they are so important in keeping those with allergies safe. You will come to understand the regulations surrounding food labelling and be able to recognise when a label is incorrect.

Unit 3: Allergy awareness for those working with children

Learn to recognise the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions on different body parts and how to perform first aid on those who have experienced a severe reaction. You will then look at what can be done in order to reduce the risk in terms of medication, avoidance and medical ID jewellery.

Entry Requirements

The ability to self-motivate and work independently. Access to the internet and computer to enable completion of coursework. Basic IT skills required.

Career Progression

CPD for those working in the relevant sectors. Progression to one of our other nationally-recognised Level 2 courses.
