Enforce your career as a police officer, firefighter, soldier, or prison officer. With this course, you will complete fitness training, team building activities, tutorials, and voluntary opportunities. You’ll visit the uniformed services at their headquarters to gain industry insight. You’ll also experience adventure activities such as bouldering and kayaking.

  • Trips & Opportunities

    During 2019/2020 the public service students had a wide range of opportunities to engage with the public services including working with West Yorkshire Police in public order training and police dog handling. Students experienced emergency planning exercises with Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority, and West Yorkshire Ambulance Service. We had visits from prison officers to speak about their roles. We had students that visited Royal Marine Commando Training Centre in Lymptone and 6 learners also had the opportunity to visit Auschwitz with the Holocuast Educational Trust.

    Entry Requirements

    Two GCSEs at grade 2 including English and maths.

    Career Progression

    Progression may include a level 2 qualification, an apprenticeship, or relevant employment.

    Our public services pathway may lead to a range of careers, these could include:

    Prison Officer

    As a prison officer, you will direct, coordinate, and participate in guarding inmates and maintaining discipline in prisons and other detention centres.

    You will need to be supportive and compassionate as well as focused on rehabilitation. You will need to pay attention to detail and be able to motivate prisoners to better themselves.

    Your work will vary depending on the type of prison you’re working in and its level of security. Higher grade prison officers have extra responsibilities such as supervising other officers.
