Break through boundaries with our preparatory programme. Designed for recruits, with this course you’ll complete complete timetabled fitness, teamwork, drill, and swimming sessions in preparation for the selection fitness tests of the forces. You’ll meet with a variety of armed forces and experience career talks and guidance on armed forces application processes. ?


Who is this course for?

Anyone that is looking to join the armed services. Maybe you are a school leaver looking for a level 3 qualification to prepare you for a faster progression in the services, or required to resit your English and Maths GCSE’s to secure the job role of your choice. Some learners join us following being unsuccessful with previous attempts to join and require some additional support to improve their swimming, fitness or understanding of the roles in the military.

    2020 saw the department create a new relationship working with the Royal Marines that gave learners the opportunity to visit Royal Marine Commando Training Centre Lympstone. Learners have the opportunity to experience life as a recruit and experience the world renowned Sheep dip as well as being put through your paces on the bottom field and having a go at the unbearable gym tests. Learners had guest speakers from the RAF regiment, British Army as well as charities including The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

    Entry Requirements

    Two GCSEs at grade 3 including English and maths. Students will need a genuine interest in joining the armed forces. A reference from your previous place of education is desirable.

    Career Progression

    Progression may include applying your skills and knowledge in the British Armed Forces, alternatively you might want to progress to a further level 3 qualification or an apprenticeship in an alternative sector.

    Royal Marine Commando

    Working as a light infantry unit enables you to take part in a number of different operational tasks. Every day will be different, some of your roles and responsibilities include mountain warfare, humanitarian support, rapid reaction and disaster relief.
