This programme is aimed at anyone wanting to become a mechanical engineer. Mechanical engineers are responsible for developing and designing machinery and components that are used in most aspects of our daily lives.

Course Information

With this apprenticeship, you will need to be technically minded and a great problem solver. You will gain the skills and knowledge of a wide range of mechanical manufacturing activities including fitting and assembly, CNC machine operating and composite manufacturing. With the manufacturing industry being one of the biggest in the world job prospects are very positive.

    Career Progression

    Toolmaker

    As a toolmaker you will assemble, fitting and repair tools. In addition, you will follow engineering drawings to mark out the design for tools and will assist with tool maintenance and compiling reports.

    Pipefitter

    As a pipefitter you will install and assemble a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes and fittings. In addition, you will secure pipes to structures and plan installation or repair work.

    Is engineering a stressful environment to work?

    Roles within engineering can tend to require constant effort and can be highly demanding for their employees as you are consistently dealing with complex data throughout the day. However, you will receive full training on how to prioritise tasks and strategies to minimise stress levels. Employers will also be aware that you are a trainee and will not throw you in at the deep end.

    What do people enjoy most about being an apprentice?

    The most enjoyable aspect for most of our apprentices is the work experience they gain while on the programme. For those used to theory-based lessons, they find it refreshing that the majority of the apprenticeship is practical training. They also like the fact that they are being paid for learning new skills!
