This course will help you deepen your knowledge of the work of the public
services and allow you to explore the wide range of opportunities available
within the emergency services and armed forces. You will meet uniformed service
professionals to find out first-hand what it is truly like to be an emergency
responder supporting the communities that we live in or being posted to a
country halfway around the world. You will also take part in outdoor adventure
and team-building activities. This course offers you the opportunity to upskill
in English and maths and understand how they will support your work in the job
role of your choice.

Who is this course for?

If you’re in year 11 and are looking to take the next steps towards your career this course is for you. This course prepares learners for the step up to the Level 3 Diploma so that you can progress to university, a police apprenticeship or a higher-level apprenticeship. All learners will also study GCSE English and/or Maths as part of your studies.

Trips & Opportunities

Public Services students engage with a wide range of public service workers. This academic year, learners have met serving personnel from West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and a prison officer from Leeds Prison. Students also had the amazing opportunity to attend emergency planning exercises with Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority, and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSE’s grade 3 in English Language and maths

Career Progression

The majority of our learners’ main progression route from this course is on to our Public Services NCFE Diploma Level 3 or Public Services Extended Diploma Level 3 courses. In the past few years a number of learners have progressed to apprenticeships in the armed services and the Yorkshire Ambulance Services.
