This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the principles of end-of-life care. This is a self-directed study programme.

Course Information

This qualification is for learners who are looking to increase their knowledge of end-of-life care in a vocational setting. This qualification aims to:
  • Inform you of the range of possible approaches to end-of-life care
  • Provide you with an understanding of how to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs
  • Explore the common questions and themes in end-of-life care and prepare you to confront issues of death and bereavement


Who is this course for?

This qualification is intended for those who work in the health and social care sector, whose role includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness. It’s ideal if you wish to gain an understanding of end of life care. You may wish to access this qualification in order to progress onto further qualifications within health and social care, or you may desire to develop within your current job role within the sector.

Units / Modules

This qualification consists of five mandatory units:
  • Unit 01: Understanding End-of-life Care
  • Unit 02: Communication During End-of-life Care
  • Unit 03: Assessment and Care Planning in End-of-life Care
  • Unit 04: Person-centred Approaches to End-of-life Care
  • Unit 05: Care During the Final Hours of Life and Bereavement Care

Benefits / Skills

To achieve the Principles of End of Life Care Certificate Level 3, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the mandatory units. Grades are not awarded. You will develop your skills to enable you to progress further in the industry.

Entry Requirements

There aren’t any specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health and social care related area.
