This ofqual regulated qualification is designed to be flexible to meet the real life needs and circumstances of its candidates. Candidates will develop established skills in canine first aid and welfare to a superior and professional level.

The course is delivered over 2 days at our Temple Newsam campus.


How to get to us


FlexiBus:


Students can travel from East Leeds to Temple Newsam via the FlexiBus and it
will bring you directly into the estate. The bus can be ordered 1 hour before it
is required and operates between 7am- 7pm Monday – Saturday. Fares start from
just £1.20. You can learn more about the designated routes, booking information
and the FlexiBus app via their website.

Alternative bus services that run in the area include the 19 and 19A. It is a
short walk from the bus stop to the college buildings.


Campus bus:


The campus bus will run from Leeds bus station directly to Temple Newsam
every day. It will cost £5 per week and is only bookable once the learner
enrols.


By train:


Temple Newsam is located 1.9 miles from Cross Gates train station, an
approximate 35-minute walk.


By car:


From the M1 take junction 46. Temple Newsam is a short drive from this exit,
there is on-site parking available.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is for any candidate who would like to develop their canine first aid skills, it is particularly beneficial for those that work in canine related industries.

Units / Modules

  • 401: Roles and responsibilities of a canine first aid person in the work place
  • 402: Canine health and first aid emergencies

Assessment Types

Summative practical assessment alongside a workbook completed throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

Candidates need to have achieved one of the following qualifications to demonstrate their knowledge and experience prior to registration for this qualification:

  • iPet Network Level 3 Award in Canine Emergency First Aid

or

  • Accredited Canine First Aid Course

or

The following Dog grooming diplomas that include canine first aid:

  • iPet Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management
  • City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming
  • OCNWM Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

and/or

  • Veterinary/Veterinary nurse related regulated qualification

Evidence of prior qualifications will be needed before registration.

Career Progression

Further canine related qualifications. Further higher education qualifications such as the Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Behaviour.
