This programme allows students to work in healthcare support. Healthcare support workers (HCSWs) work as part of a team to provide high-quality and compassionate care to individuals.

Course Information

As an apprentice, you will prepare individuals for healthcare activities carried out for other members of the healthcare team and will look after them before, during or after those activities in line with their care plan. In addition, you will carry out non-clinical duties that may vary dependent on your role. These duties could include keeping records, making beds or returning or cleaning clinical equipment.

    Healthcare Support Worker

    As a healthcare support worker you will assist patients with basic hygiene activities and work closely with other healthcare professionals. In addition, you will administer medication to patients, take vital signs, report findings, and collect, store and label biological specimens.

    Yes, once you have sent in an enquiry to the college, a business engagement advisor will be allocated to you. They are experienced within your sector and will be there to support you through the full recruitment process of your apprentice.

    What happens if an apprentice goes on maternity leave or is off sick for a long period of time?

    If an apprentice is going to be off for a significant amount of time, we can put them on a break in learning that stops the apprenticeship at the point they got up to. They can then restart it when they are back in work. Further details on this can be discussed with your apprentice’s assessor.
