The Essential Digital Skills qualification is designed by the government to upskill adults in basic digital literacy, filling gaps that exist across the country. It focuses on developing skills around using devices and handling information, as well as teaching you to create and edit content, communicate online and on social media, as well as being safe and responsible online when it comes to purchases and transactions.

This qualification will help you grow in confidence and unlock your full potential, increasing competence with digital skills. What you learn during the course will be widely used in the workplace, and you will gain a great deal of competency around digital skills and practices. This course will be delivered using a blended approach, some in-class lessons and some online lessons/learning.

Free for unemployed adults. Fundable via the learning aims database for adults aged 24+. £99 if you’re not eligible for funding.

  • Using devices and handling information (includes how to store information)
  • Creating and editing
  • Communicating online (such as via social media)
  • Transacting (buying) online activities
  • Being responsible, safe and legal online

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you will be required to complete Gateway’s ‘Basic Suitability Assessment’ and the ‘Strengths and Weaknesses Assessment’

Career Progression

Progression to the TLM Level 2 IT User Skills with Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification.
