ECDL is the global standard in end-user computer skills, offering an internationally recognised certificate that is supported by governments, computer societies, international organisations and commercial corporations worldwide.

Course Information

The Essential Digital Skills course teaches adults the skills they need to participate and communicate successfully in the online world. Students will learn how to use technology, computers and other digital devices in their home and work life, allowing them to build confidence and simplify everyday tasks. The course covers a broad range of IT knowledge and students will learn through an online platform, which they can complete in their own time.

This course is available at two levels: Level 1 focuses primarily on professional digital skills, with a secondary focus on utilising these skills at home. The emphasis for Entry Level 3 is on developing digital skills for life and introducing learners to the different work scenarios where these skills may be required.

This ECDL qualification is a level 2 Certificate that covers core IT applications commonly used in many businesses around the world. Completing this qualification will improve your understanding of these applications and teach you how to use the software efficiently. You will complete four specific level 2 units that cover:

  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

By completing this qualification, you will develop the IT user knowledge and skills you need to work productively in an administrative job role that requires the use of common IT software applications.

Are you ready to improve your IT skills? We have a range of part-time IT classes to suit your needs. We run a variety of classes in a workshop environment where you can work at your own pace and level with support from your teacher.

Most of our IT courses have multiple start dates and various durations. Please contact us for an initial assessment and interview to determine which course is best suited to your individual needs.

Units / Modules

During the course you will study:

Spreadsheet Software:

  • This unit will teach you the concepts and skills to be able to produce accurate spreadsheet outputs with a focus on the office environment.

Word Processing Software:

  • This unit will provide you with the skills and confidence to use a word processing application to create letters and documents that could be used in a business environment.

Presentation Software:

  • This unit will provide you with the essential skills relating to using presentation software.

Assessment Types

The Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation modules are assessed by a task-based practical online test to be completed within 45 minutes. A pass mark of 75% is required.

Assessments are usually taken when the learning for that module has been completed. The Improving Productivity Using IT module is assessed by a mixture of multiple choice questions and a task based practical test.

A pass mark of 75% is required for both the multiple choice and practical test. The assessment for this module is taken at the end of the course.
